The Brooklyn Bridge Story is amazing and true. It is about one of the Seven Wonders of the Industrial World, but Mostly a tribute to the Human spirit that went into building it. This is the type of story that puts the day-to-day obstacles we face in a new prospective. In 1883, John Roebling, an inspired engineer had an idea to build a bridge from New York to Long Island using steel cable. Worldwide bridge building experts thought it was impossible. A Bridge that size or type had never been done before. Roebling and his son, Washington, worked on the concept, overcame political and finical obstacles and started construction. A few months into the project an on-site accident killed John Roebling and badly injured Washington Roebling who was unable to move or talk, but mind was as sharp as ever. Everyone but Washington Roebling thought it was over. In the hospital he arranged to see the bridge, developed a code which he tapped on his wife's arm with the one finger he could move. For 13 years Washington tapped out his instructions with one finger until the Brooklyn Bridge finished. As long as we can move even one finger, there's hope. Some Sites I came across: |
