Cloepatra's Life and Times

Cleopatra's Life and History remains of great interest, yet enigmatic to many lesser people (such as my self), who, not being great, can not understand the soul of those of Greatness. Cleopatra is one of the most interesting people who ever lived.

Guess the way to understand Cleopatra is to consider the Life, times and History of (arguably) the greatest woman of ancient times.

Well, the way to go about this is probably to collect all the facts and see where they lead.

Alexander the Great

Probably the story starts with Alexander the Great, who became the leader of Egypt and was partially responsible for Cleopatra's the great Pharaoh Queen she was.

When Alexander died, Ptolemy's generals divided the kingdom. Ptolemy got Egypt as his part. During his long reign, Ptolemy led Egypt to prosperity before he handed over its management to his son, Ptolemy II.
The Ptolemaic Dynasty was started. The Ptolemaic Dynasty went on to Ptolemy Auletes. Cleopatra's Father.

Cleopatra's Ancestry Ptolemy, a Greek general was ancestor to Cleopatra

Ptolemy I, 284 B.C., one of Alexander The Great's main generals the ruler of Egypt as a Pharaoh.

Cleopatra VII's family had been ruling Egypt since 305 B.C. first for Alexander the great, than Ptolemy I declared himself King of Egypt and laid the basis for Ptolemaic administration.
He and his decendents made Alexandria the cultural center of the Greek world, and founded the great library. Built one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world: the lighthouse of Alexandria called "The Pharos", and the Ptolemy dynasty made Egypt prosperous.

Cleopatra's Birth

Cleopatra was born in 69 B.C. in Alexandria, Egypt. In the springtime of 51 B.C., Pharaoh Ptolemy Auletes died and left his kingdom in his will to his eighteen year old daughter, Cleopatra, and her 12 year old brother Ptolemy XIII.

Cleopatra's, Father was Ptolemy XI Auletes, king of Egypt, and mother, probably, Cleopatra V, Tryphaena.

Cleopatra had several older and younger sisters and two younger brothers.

Cleopatra and Caesar

Caesar came to conquer Egypt for Rome, but a torrid love affair arose with Cleopatra, considered one of the classic love stories of all times.

Cleopatra, conquered Caesar, Brought Rome to Civil war, and changed the course of history.

Cleopatra and Marc Antony

After Caesar's murder, Cleopatra fled back to Egypt to try to restore it to it's former Glory. Well Marc Anthony was charged with governing Egypt for Rome. One day Marc Anthony summoned Cleopatra to tell her how things would be.

Well, Cleopatra arrived in a decadent Royal Barge, dressed as the Goddess, Venus (Aphrodite), Invited him on a tour of Egypt by the Nile. By the time they finished, Marc Anthony was eating out of her hand. Marc Anthony Cleopatra his love, Loyalty, Support, heart and soul, yes, and even his life.

Cleopatra and Octavilian

Octavilian churned up Rome so he could conquer Marc Anthony and Cleopatra since they stood in the way of him becoming Emperor of Rome. Octavilian especially did not like either of then since Marc Anthony divorced his sister, Octivilia, to be with Cleopatra. Also both of them were a threat to his ambition to be Emperor of Rome. When he did become Emperor of Rome, he changes his name to "Augustus"

Cleopatra's Suicide

Cleopatra was defeated by Octavilian, held captive to be displayed as an example of Roman conquest.

When Cleopatra had nothing left to fight with, she gave all she had to defeat her conquerer to claim the final victory.

Cleopatra's Decedents

The Decedents of Cleopatra also played a role in history.

Cleopatra The Person

Cleopatra's Personality and motivation was an interesting as the woman her self. Probably we shall never really know what she was like.
