The Dalai Lamas are the manifestations of the Bodhisattva (Buddha) of Compassion, who chose to reincarnate to serve the people. His Holiness the Dalai Lama (Than named Tenzin Gyatso) was born to a peasant family on July 6th, 1935. Their family lived in a small village called Taktser, located in north eastern Tibet. Tenzin Gyatso was recognized at the age of two as the reincarnation of his predecessor the 13th Dalai Lama (who died in 1935) (which is to say the thirteenth re-birth of The Buddha). The Dalai Lama says: "I am just a simple Buddhist monk - no more, nor less." but is the head of state and spiritual leader of the Tibetan people. Tibetans refer to as Yeshe Norbu, the Wishfulfilling Gem or simply Kundun - The Presence.
The Dalai Lama won the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize, met with Pope Paul VI and
many heads of states. Journied to 46 nations as a leading proponent of
human rights and world peace.
