Eris is unpopular and frequently snubbed as a guest by the other gods and mankind.
The case of the Trojan War, which was an indirect result of not inviting Eris to a wedding.
She was not invited to the wedding of the hero Peleus and the sea-goddess Thetis. In a revenge, Eris threw one of the golden apples of the Hesperides and carved into it the word "Kallisti" ("For the fairest").
Three powerful goddesses each to claimed to be the fairest: Hear, Athena and Aphrodite.
Zeus was asked to settle it (knowing the nature of woman), he declines and instead tasked a Trojan prince named Paris, to judge the dispute.
  • Hear  -   tried to bribe Paris with power.
  • Athena  -   tried to bribe Paris with wisdom.
  • Aphrodite  -   tried to bribe Paris with love of the most beautiful mortal in the world.
Paris awarded the apple to Aphrodite, (would have been my choice). and she cast a spell to make the fairest mortal become his wife (Helen). Paris kidnapped of the Spartan queen Helen as his prize for selecting Aphrodite.
Helen was already married to Menelaus, the king of Sparta, who didn't take kindly to having his wife abducted. He raised a large fleet to sail against Troy and attack the city for ten years.
