My Fair Lady

My Fair Lady, A film is based on the story Pygmalion (1912) by George Bernard Shaw (the name refers to the King of Cyprus who fell in love with a statue of his own making). In this case, Dr. Henry Higgins, linguist professor made a street wench (Eliza Dolittle) a "lady" and a woman of culture, by manipulation of her speech and manners.

As the story goes, Henry Higgins, overhearing an exchange between an unrefined flower girl with a Cockney accent, Eliza Doolittle and a gentleman who had run over her flowers, and the contrast fascinated him. The happy-but-cynical misanthrope Dr. Higgins is heard to say he could make lady out of even that street urchin. Than he has to make good on it.

The English Linguistics Professor takes Eliza under his tutelage. Higgins is a somewhat egotistical bachelor who pushes Eliza day and night, while wondering why a woman can't be more like a man, so she can learn to speak properly. Higgins pride would not let him quit and Higgins would not let Eliza quit.

Based on Eliza's success Higgins bet his friend, that he could pass Eliza off as a Duchess in six months.

Eliza and Higgins work together, they become accustomed to each other, Higgins is still abusive but they had a "working" relationship. Eliza has surpassed Higgins's expectations, but he still considers her a common flower girl. "How does one move forward in such a situation?" He asks him self. Anyway they pull off the Duchess imitation with flying colors.

Higgins is charmed by Dolittle and sets him up to go to America and become a lecturer. As Eliza become more accomplished Higgins begins to see that she is quite an individual herself, but his restrained ways outweigh his admiration.

Colonel Pickering knows all too well what Higgins would not admit to himself. Higgins merely said he had grown "accustomed" to Eliza. As time passes, Eliza has attracted several other admirers Higgins merely "Was concerned"

Eventually Eliza moves her bird cage and a few other things into Higgins house. Well, You take it from there.
