Guinivere, a Celtic Priestess, due to inherit most of Briton upon
her marriage, chose to marry Arthur. This broke the previous
arrangement her father to King Urien, made which made him an enemy of
King Arthur.
Lancelot's reputation of Bravery, Nobility, Civility, Honor and Virtue and in every sense a Knight in Shining armor preceded him.
Legend speaks of Guinivere's beauty and Enchanting power over men. Guinivere enchanted him and became the lover of Lancelot du Lac. Lancelot was deeply remorseful about not following his ideals but he was helpless to control him self. Guinivere had complete power over Sir Lancelot.
Arthur, realizing that Guinivere and Lancelot are in love, refuses to admit it to anyone. But Mordred and Agravaine, who hated Lancelot's nobel ways, insist on accusing him to the king's face. Guinivere was sentenced to be burned at the stake. They attempted to capture Lancelot but he escaped to France. Guinivere was duly sentenced to be burned at the stake as an adulteress. Sir Lancelot returns from France with an army on the day the sentence is to be carried out and rescued Guinivere.
Lancelot Freed Guinivere and brought her to France with him, and war followed between Lancelot's Army and Arthur. Many Brave knights were killed on both sides King Arthur returned to find Mordred, who remained to rule England, sieged the crown (also tried to seize Guinivere). King Arthur seeks out Mordred, killing him with a spear but Mordred with his dying breath delivers a mortal blow to King Arthur. King Arthur returns Excalibur to the Lady of the Lake and is buried on the isle of Avalon.
Guinivere took the veil and became a Nun. Guinivere tormented her self with the guilt of all the trouble she caused. Lancelot became a hermit and lamented his loss of his Ideals and eventually went insane. |
