MORGAN LE FAY: alternative names:Morgaine, Modron, Morgian, Morgan Le Fee, Fata Morgana, Morgan Le Fay is Arthur's half sister, the daughter of Arthur's mother Igraine and her first husband, the Duke of Cornwall. Even though Morgan Le Fay was thought to be Arthur's enemy in life, she was his protector in afterlife. The story I am going to tell is a little different from the traditional one of King Arthur. In my story, Morgan Le Fay is Arthur's destiny rather than his nemesis. Morgan Le Fay is and her nine sisters represent the divined natural order of the world similar to the way the Greek nymphs who were responsible for tree, bodies of water, and keeping the natural world in order. The temple of the natural order was a castle of maidens, near Edinburgh, an enchanted island in the sea called "the Fortunate Isle," "the Island of Apples," or more commonly known as Avalon where the sisterhood of 9 lived. Morgan Le Fay was characterized by the powerful earthly qualities of winter and warfare. Her antithesis was Queen Guinevere, 'Flower Bride' and represented spring and growth. Together they form the cycle of life. Morgan Le Fay was a fairy and has magical qualities, she could fly with wings and change shape. The Sisterhood of nine were also faries and had magical qualities, King Arthur was nobel and almost God like. Arthur wanted nothing less than to create a perfect world in which each person is equal, and is dealt with fairly. Camelot represented the ultimate ideal world. But he had his human failings. And by Morgan's sister and his half-sister Morgause the wife of Lot of Orkney, Arthur begot Mordred who grew up to become his nemesis and who eventually caused Arthur's death, and the destruction of Camelot. Morgan Le Fay is a healer with knowledge roots and herbal medicine. She is also the women who takes Arthur in a barge to Avalon to be healed (though Morgan awaits him and heals him rather than actually fetching him herself). Morgan proclaims that she can heal Arthur if he stays with her for a long time. Like other fairy-women, Morgan Le Fay wants to keep a mortal man in a "sensual paradise" of her own, so she creates a '"Valley without Return'" to entrap Arthur. There is a suggestion that her malice toward King Arthur is due to frustrated passion. There is also a mysterious relationship between Morgan Le Fay and "The Lady of the Lake". The Lady of the Lady is best known for giving King Arthur of his magical sword Excalibur, so he would not fall in battle. The Lady of the Lake eventually reclaimed her sword when Arthur was fatally wounded at the Battle of Camlann and Excalibur was hurled back to misty waters. The Lady of the Lady is associated with the Titan Mnemosyne (Goddess of memory). Mnemosyne (daughter of Gaia and Uranus) Mnemosyne by Zeus is the mother of the nine water-nymph called Muses. Morgan adopted many challenging measures to aid Arthur's kingship and she acted as guardian of the land. As King Arthur died, nine muses appeared out of nowhere and silently carried his body to Avalon The Lady of the Lady was one of the three Queens who escorted the King to Avalon (where he was buried)
