    Jean Valjean's theft of a loaf of bread condemns him to an unjust prison sentence Took his dignity.

        He later escapes from prison and lives a life on the run. All the while being hunted by the relentless and compulsive policeman, Javert.

    A kindly religious man shows him the meaning of love and gives him back his soul and his dignity

        He later falls in love with the doomed Fantine. At her untimely death, Valjean raises her daughter Cosette, Later Cosette falls passionately in love with Marius, a charismatic young revolutionary.

    Jean Valjean's quest for redemption causes him to sacrifice his freedom in order to save Cosette's love. So strong was Jean Valjean's sense of rightness that he was willing to sacrifice his freedom, even his life for am ideal. Than and only then is he truly free from Javert's merciless pursuit.

    Ultimately Javert faces the dilemma of recognizing Jean Valjean's redemption. His black and white world is torn apart and his quest to punish the evil turns upon him self as he realized he is evil. He puts an end to his own life.
