The Little Mermaid, written by Hans Christian Andersen, is a beautiful story
about Ariel. A lovely young mermaid who falls in love with a human prince. Her
father (Who is the God of the Sea) forbids this. Deeply in love, Ariel strikes a
deal with Ursula (An evil octopus), Ursula will change Ariel's tail to human
legs so she can follow the prince on to the land, but if the prince doesn't kiss
her within two days, she will have to give her haunting singing voice to the
octopus. Ariel is a female character who, instead of waiting for the fates
decide her destiny.
Ariel thinks and acts independently and rebelliously, she's smart and thinks for
herself.
