Some facts and speculation

The Three Kings (or kings ambassador called "Magi" or "Wise 
Men.") came from the east following the Star of Bethlehem which 
signaled the birth of the King of Kings, Jesus.

The three came on camels and were named Gaspar, Melchior, and 
Balthazar. from Midian and Ephah and Sheba and brought gifts of 
gold, francisence and myrrh. and proclaim the praise of the 
Lord.

Where they actually came from:

Midian (Inland east of the red sea near Jordin ) and Ephah 
(Probably near Median since Median (son of Abraham of Genessis 
fame) had a son called Epahah ) and Sheba (on the west of Red 
sea next to Ethiopia)

About the Star of Bethlehem:

When the Three Kings arrived in Israel they went straight to 
the King, Herod, to see the new prince that the star signaled. 
The star went out. ( Herod secretly wanted to kill the Christ 
Child  and asked the wise men to bring the child to him ) The 
Three Wise men of course recgonized Herod as a self serving 
sleeze ball, and when the star appeared again went to the 
Christ Child and warned them about Herod.

Some suggestion it was a Supernova. A conjunction with one 
planet passes in front of another or a comet or a natural event 
or considering the capability of the creator of the Universe, A 
miracle is more likely.

The gifts of the Magi

Likely the wise men from Midian and Epahah (Decendents of 
Abraham and these things were used to prepare the alter of God)
gave the gold and francisence.

The myrrh (used in embalming) was most likely given by the Magi 
from Sheba (Located north of Egypt where embalming and the 
after life was the dominant preoccupation. Way above wealth)
