Marilyn Monroe was a World Wide sensation in her lifetime, and now, long after. Marilyn's popularity is beyond star or icon. "Marilyn Monroe" is synonymous with beauty and glamour. Marilyn is an inspiration to all who strive to overcome personal obstacles and achie greatness.

  • 1926-06-01: - Birthdate -Marilyn Monroe was born at 9:30 AM on June 1st, 1926, in the Los Angeles General Hospital registered under the name of Norma Jeane Mortenson. (Her real name was Norma Jeane Baker)
    Marilyn Monroe was an illegitimate child whose father (Edward Mortenson from Haugesund) had deserted her mother (Gladys Baker, nes Monroe) before she was born. Her mother, Gladys Baker, was a film-cutter at RKO, and had severe mental issues. She abandoned Norma Jean to sequence of foster homes. Norma Jeane had a lonely, tragic life, to contrast the glamorous and exciting existance of Marilyn Monroe.
    Marilyn's mother, Gladys Monroe, gave her to a foster family where she lived until she was 7. After her grandfather's suicide, her mother, reclaimed her and brought her back.
    A little later her mother's friend, Grace McKee, had Gladys declared insane and commited to a psychiatric hospital. Grace McKee, took custody of Norma Jeane until Grace McKee, married Ervin Silliman Goddard who brought one of his 3 daughters back to live with them.

  • 1937-06-26: - Left orphanage - After two years Grace McKee brought Norma Jeane home but her husband,Ervin Silliman Goddard tried to molest Norma Jeane, and than she went to live with her mother's brother's mother, Olive Brunings.
  • 1938-06-01: - Just after Norma Jeane's 12th birthday she was assaulted by one of Olive's sons and went to live with Grace McKee's aunt, Ana Lower. A Few years later Ana developed health problems and Norma Jeane went back to the Goddards where she met a neighbor's son, Jim Dougherty.   • 1942-06-19: - Married Jim Dougherty - Marilyn married the 21-year-old aircraft plant worker, Jim Dougherty right after her 16th birthday, and went to live with her mother-in-law. In 1944 Jim was called to military service While he was in the military, she began to model, they divorced in 1946.
    She Started as a model, she was a brunette but she dyed her hair blond for a shampoo commercial. She was blond ever since that.
  • 1945-06-26: - Photographed by David Conover for Yank magazine. The Army sent a photographer (David Connover) to take pictures of women helping with the war effort. The photographer was impressed by Norma Jeane and suggested she apply for a modeling position at the Blue Book model agency.
  • 1945-08-02: - Application for the Blue Book Modeling Agency. By 1946 she was on 33 magazine covers and was posing for top photographers.

  • 1946-07-19: - First screen test, for Fox. In July 1946 Norma Jeane did a screen test at Twentieth-Century Fox and got a contract which she signed using the name Marilyn Monroe.

  • 1946-08-26: - First studio contract with Fox - 20th Century Fox gave her a contract but let it lapse a year later. During this time Norma Jean began her transformation to Marilyn Monroe.

  • 1947-12---: - Dangerous Years, Fox, December 1947 (filmed after Scudda-Hoo! Scudda-Hay! but released first), with William Halop, Ann Todd, Darryl Hickman, Jerome Cowan. She got a role in Scudda-Hoo! Scudda-Hay! and her only words were 'Hi Rad!' he also got a bit part in Dangerous Years.
  • 1948-03-09: - Contract with Columbia Studios - In 1948 Columbia gave her a six-month contract, turned her over to coach Natasha Lytess and featured her in the B movie "Ladies of the Chorus" for which she sang two numbers.
