| Mermaids in Mythology |
|
Mermaid mythology goes back to the beginning of western culture and other
cultures before that as well. A memory of a time before time, perhaps memories in the deep hidden inner recesses of the mind, memories of out prehistoric ancestors. A reason beyond reason, a knowledge with out knowing, Memories of things we have no memory of, belief with out doubt while we doubt that we believe that the fact is fiction. In fairy tales there is: Hans Christian Andersen's Little MermaidAbout a mermaid who rescues a young prince, gives up everything to become human, fails to marry him but gains an immortal soul.
A chimney sweep who sees the squire's daughter, but drowns and becomes a water baby with an immortal soul. Meets many water creatures including mermaids, eventually Ellie, the squire's daughter also drowns, becomes a water baby and go to Heaven.
"The Mermaids' Lagoon" Mermaids are shown In cave art, Greek states and pottery. Most cultures,
have mermaids in their legends and myths. There are (He He) of course my own Mermaid web pages.
