The Rag Doll - There must have been some magic in that old Halloween costume that was too small - Halloween Magic. Mommy sewed it into a Rag Doll to comfort Dorothy because she felt alone. The Rag Doll was Like an alter ego which came to life by being loved, and was kind of related to a guarding angel. Dorothy called it "Dot" because it was a lot like her. Who ever Dot was she had a good head on her and Always knew the Right thing, and Always knew right from wrong.
Dorothy needed someone to share thought with, someone to bounce ideas off. The Rag Doll was more to Dorothy than a child's imaginary friend to talk to and play with. Dot would tell Dorothy things she didn't even know. Dot never lead Dorothy into trouble. Dorothy seemed to want to talk everything out with Dot and she felt bad if she did something Dot didn't like. Dorothy is only one child in the family, since she had no brothers or sisters, but she had Dot. Dorothy grew up to be a highly intelligent, successful woman, and is usually right in her ideas: Original Thinking is a lonely business No One else understands. Dorothy is well known by her peers for her remarkable perception and insights, now some 30 years later she still remembers Dot. I would venture to bet that she still talks to Dot. By JoAnn and Walt |
