These are some words of Mother Teresa: What we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But if that drop was not in the ocean, I think the ocean would be less because of that missing drop. I do not agree with the big way of doing things. A woman she found on a Calcutta street: I knew she was dying. After I did what I could, she took my hand, gave me a beautiful smile and thanked me. She gave me more than I gave her. "Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God's kindness; kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile, kindness in your warm greeting." Prayer makes your heart bigger, until it is capable of containing the gift of God Himself. Prayer is not asking. Prayer is putting oneself in the hands of God, at his disposition, and listening to his voice in the depths of our hearts. We can do no great things, only small things with great love. If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one. Do It Now! .............Mother Teresa Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person. Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echos are truly endless. If we worry too much about ourselves, we won't have time for others. Holiness is not the luxury of a few. It is everyone's duty: yours and mine. Holiness does not consist in doing extraordinary things. It consists in accepting, with a smile, what Jesus sends us. It consists in accepting and following the will of God. I ask you one thing: do not tire of giving, but do not give your leftovers. Give until it hurts, until you feel the pain. If you judge someone, you have no time to love them. Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier. The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread. ~Mother Teresa Today it is fashionable to talk about the poor. Unfortunately it is not fashionable to talk with them. The poor are Christ Himself. When we touch the sick and needy, we touch the suffering body of Christ. I pay no attention to numbers; what matters is the people. I rely on one. There is only one: Jesus. Good works are links that form a chain of love. Where does love begin? In our own homes. When does it begin? When we pray together. The family that prays together, stays together. Only God knows our true needs. God doesn't require us to succeed; he only requires that you try. To keep a lamp burning we have to keep putting oil in it. We must do things one at a time. Simple acts of love and prayer keep the light of Christ burning. There should be less talk; a preaching point is not a meeting point. What do you do then? Take a broom and clean someone's house. That says enough. God is the friend of silence. See how nature -- trees, flowers, grass -- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence. . . . We need silence to be able to touch souls. HUMOR Mother Teresa after one of her close shaves with death joked. "I went to heaven's gate but St. Peter told me, `Go back. There are no poor people here to be cared for.' So I came back to continue my work," Called the "Saint of the Gutters," Mother Teresa always parried questions about whether she would be canonised, saying: "Let me die first." I will give saints to Mother church. If there are poor in the moon, we will go there too. Peace begins with a smile. WISDOM On abortion: Is the greatest enemy of peace. On aids: The retribution for "improper sexual misconduct." mother teresa On forgiveness: Forgiveness offers us a clean heart, and people will be 100 times better after it. On happiness: Happiness is the sign of a generous person. It is often the mantle of self-sacrifice. Joy is the surest way to announce Christianity to the world. On her gifts: (My gift is the ability) to see the face of Jesus in its most distressing disguise. On her order: If the rich people can have the full service and devotion of so many nuns and priests, surely the poorest of the poor and the lowest of the low can have the love and devotion of us few. `The Slum Sister' they call me, and I am glad to be just that for His love and glory. On homelessness: The problems facing us are due to the fact that we are too distant from Jesus. On overpopulation: There is no problem of overpopulation, only [of] God's will. On poverty: It is very beautiful for the poor to accept their lot. The world is much helped by the suffering of poor people. On sacrifice: A sacrifice to be real must cost, must hurt, must empty ourselves. The Fruit of . . . . . . . Mother Teresa "The fruit of Silence is Prayer The fruit of Prayer is Faith The fruit of Faith is Love The fruit of Love is Service The fruit of Service is Peace." On service to God: Give yourself fully to God. He will use you to accomplish great things on the condition that you believe much more in His love than in your own weakness. "Love is a fruit in season at all times, and within reach of every hand." ---Mother Teresa On the family: The family is a precious and beautiful gift of God, and let us make sure that we never destroy this beautiful gift but keep the family united through prayer, love and sacrifice. On the poor: (They) don't need pity; they need love and compassion. If you don't know them, you don't love them and don't serve them. On unemployment: First we must learn to love one another.
