Valentine's Day started in Rome, February 14th was the holiday of the Roman goddess, Juno (The Greeks called her Hear). Goddess of women and marriage.
February 15th, began the Feast of Lupercalia. Girls put their names into a jar and young man would draw a girl's name, Sometimes fall in love and marry.
The Valentine's Day concept is of course older or we would not exist.

Saint Valentine

The Roman Emperor Claudius II canceled all marriages in Rome. Saint Valentine was a priest and secretly married couples.
Claudius killed him for it on the 14th of February, 270. The church established Saint Valentine's which became associated with love.

CUPID

Cupid (Eros in Greek) Is depicted a playful winged child with bow and arrows tipped with love potion. His mother was Venus, (Aphrodite in Greece), Goddess of love and beauty, who could cast a love spell.
